Norwegian Méndez Centre for Investigative Interviewing
The Norwegian Méndez Centre for Investigative Interviewing, launched on 16 September 2024, is hosted by the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) at the University of Oslo. As a key player in global human rights, the NCHR leverages research, education, and dissemination to advance ethical and human rights compliant practices. The Centre focuses on integrating evidence-based methods into law enforcement and judicial training, emphasising compliance with the Méndez Principles.
Key activities include:
- Specialised Training: Workshops for police and legal professionals, focusing on ethical and effective interviewing methods.
- Research and Collaboration: Engaging in innovative research on interviewing methods and collaborating internationally to promote best practices globally.
- Resources and Outreach: Developing resources such as the UN manual on Investigative Interviewing and organising training sessions and seminars to highlight the importance of ethical information gathering and investigations.
In addition to numerous bilateral training and capacity building activities organised in cooperation with local partners, covering Asia, South America, Africa and Europe, NCHR cooperates with, among others the United Nations (UNODC, DPO/UNPOL, and OHCHR) and regional initiatives, such as The Convention against Torture Initiative, to strengthen the global standard on investigative interviewing for more effective and human rights compliant information gathering and investigations.
