In summer 2024 our Action supported three of our members from ITC countries to present their research in scientific conferences.
Laurena Kalaja from Albania (on the photo, left) participated in British Society of Criminology conference called ‘Criminology in Times of Transition’ in July 2024 in Strathclyde University, Glasgow, with the presentation ‘Reforming Solitary Confinement Policies: Balancing Security and Human Rights in the Criminal Justice System’. The presentation focused on aligning solitary confinement practices with the MENDEZ principles to protect human rights.
Olga Mazur from Poland participated in the International Academy of Investigative Psychology titled „Investigative psychology: global developments in behavioural science contributions to policing” that took place in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, in July 2024. She presented the results of her research on the methods and tactics of interrogating a suspect by Polish investigators titled ‘Are the Mendez Principles Necessary for Investigators in Poland? Strategies of Suspects Interrogation in Poland in the Light of the UN Principles of Effective Interviewing.’
Aleksandras Izotovas from Lithuania (on the photo, right) presented his research in International Investigative Interviewing Research Group conference in June 2024 in Ottawa, Canada. The presentation was titled ‘Is it interviewing or interrogation in Lithuania (or somewhere in between)?’ and co authored by Ilona Laurinaitytė, Kristina Vanagaitė and Neringa Grigutytė. The presentation focused on how investigative interviewing in Lithuania corresponds to Mendez principles of the effective interviewing.
